MEET: ERIC PULSIFER

New site. who’s this?

Eric Pulsifer is an Austin-based human keen on writing, technology, and tacos. He regularly partakes in the typing, jotting down, and editing of words; the doodling of dinosaurs; brainstorming creative concepts with a group; the cooking of eggs; and the making of themed mixtapes. Though he was brought up on AP Style, he’s a vocal convert to Team Oxford Comma. He’s obsessed with brand-new music and kind-of old video games. He likes breakfast, books (of the paper and audio varieties), black coffee, SNES-era RPGs, and the smell of a campfire. He doesn’t much care for ampersands, the feel of styrofoam, or ketchup.

KONG, CONTENT MANAGER

2022 - Present

  • Has a hand in all things words-related at Kong—from content and customer marketing to brand and events—with a focus on delivering value for the content consumer

  • Authoring and editing digital content ranging from top-of-funnel SEO-driving “what is” blogs and in-depth whitepapers to animated explainer videos and customer success stories—plus, sourcing friendly folks to help carry the content load: hiring and managing a team of contractors and interns and recruiting and training internal and external technical subject-matter experts

  • Worked with leadership and across teams for a brand and corporate messaging refresh and a full site refresh

  • Being an ardent (and occasionally annoying) “brand police” advocate and debating those who dare suggest an en dash and em dash are interchangeable

A cloud guru / PluRALSIGHT, LEAD CONTENT strategist + CONTENT MARKETER

2019 - 2022

  • Partnered with SEO, social, designers, and instructors to create and implement strategy driving millions of organic views, resulting in 300% YoY growth

  • Helped develop and champion the brand’s human voice—and successfully fought to maintain it as the business evolved, ensuring B2B business surpassed B2C without losing passionate brand advocates (and proudly had a hand in some of the sickest, most popular swag re:Invent has ever seen)

Spiceworks, senior copywriter

2015 - 2019

  • Senior Copywriter for the Spiceworks Creative Team, serving clients looking to reach IT buyers

  • Crafted content for Spiceworks and clients, including video scripts, blog posts, landing pages, banner ads, and infographics

  • Trained and advised others on how to write in the Spiceworks brand voice

  • Collaborated with creatives across disciplines

  • Brainstormed creative campaign concepts

  • Conducted on-camera interviews for case studies and testimonials

  • Synced with clients and served to advocate on their behalf throughout the production process

Spiceworks, online tech journalist + email marketing

2012 - 2015

  • Coached, copyedited, and collaborated with super-smart IT pros and tech marketers to create thought-leadership content

  • Solely responsible for delivery and (high) performance of revenue-driving targeted emails promoting this content

AUstin american-statesman, contributing music writer

2012 - 2024

  • Interviewed musicians (including Khruangbin, Tool, Tegan and Sara, Macklemore, and Savages) for feature articles

  • Whipped up live music coverage regularly and rapidly, typically on the spot, typing on a phone while standing in a rowdy crowd

  • Fun fact: An ear-wrecking on-the-floor double-header of noisy bands Idles and Metz ties with the pure pop bliss of my first (of many) times seeing Carly Rae Jepsen as pick for favorite live performance(s)

ketner group communications, account executive

2010 - 2012

  • Typed up press releases, drafted marketing materials, managed and monitored social media accounts, and handled other PR and marketing-related fun for B2B tech clients

community impact newspaper, market editor + REPORTER

2008 - 2010

  • Managed all editorial aspects of the Southwest Austin edition of the paper in print and online

  • Led and collaborated with a team of reporters and designers

BOSSIER PRESS-TRIBUNE, MANAGING editor

2007 - 2008

  • Oversaw a team of reporters and photographers to handle creation of all editorial content

  • Designed graphics and handled page layout

  • Spearheaded efforts to bring the oldest print publication in northwest Louisiana into the 21st century

I write words. Here are a few I don’t get to use enough: salamander, karate chop, marmalade, malfeasance, didgeridoo, and rigmarole.
